DIMENSIONS FOR MY HARDIE PIPES
               (to accompany PVC bagpipe article)

PLEASE NOTE -- I am a bit hesitant to provide the following
information as it is MUCH better to borrow a set of real pipes and
take the measurements directly yourself, but I have had very many
requests for dimensions & offer the following in answer to these
requests. With an instrument of this type, the keyword is
experimentation! If something does not work or sound right, diddle
& alter it's dimensions a bit.

 NUMBERS = outside diameters
 lower case letters = inside diameters
 UPPER CASE LETTERS = length of particular section

                 DISTANCES TO THIS LINE-------------------------->|

Overall chanter length is 14 5/16" (left end to right end of
diagram above)

Overall taper of chanter inner bore is 27/32 at big end to 5/32 at
other end - linear taper.

Overall dimension of chanter outside bore is 15/16 at big end
to 1/2 at other end - linear taper.

Two 3/8" diameter "air/sound holes" (not fingered) are drilled
opposite each other 2 5/8" from big end of chanter, & on sides (not
in line with finger holes)

"knob" just behind "plug-in" is 1 5/16 max diameter.

"plug-in" is 11/16 diameter by 15/16 long. This is where the
chanter plugs into the chanter-stock.

Thumb hole is obviously on the opposite side of fingerholes.

I'm afraid that's about all the information I can provide. There
are sources on the internet of various pipemaking info - even some
including dimensions. I will try to find some of these sites &
provide a link here. In the meantime, if anyone does locate such a
site, please tell me.

Thanks
